Green Cleaning
Certifications & Products Lehigh Valley PA
Not all green cleaning certifications are equal. Here’s exactly what they mean, what the products do, and why it matters for your Lehigh Valley business.business.
What Our Green Cleaning Certifications Mean for Your Business
The term green cleaning gets used loosely, and green cleaning certifications are what separate verified programs from vague claims. Some companies call themselves green because they switched to a lemon-scented spray. Others have built a documented, certified program backed by federal agencies and independent testing. The difference matters for your employees, your clients, and your facility.
At Angst Cleaning, we believe you deserve to understand exactly what goes into our green cleaning program and why each product and certification was chosen.Visit our eco-friendly green cleaning services page to see the full program, the services we provide, and which facilities benefit most. This page explains the green cleaning certifications behind our program and the products we have chosen to carry them out. We present it in plain language so you can make an informed decision about whether green cleaning is right for your business.
What is EPA Safer Choice Certification?
EPA Safer Choice is a program run by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. To earn the Safer Choice label, EPA scientists must review and approve every single ingredient in a product, including fragrance components, for safety to human health and the environment.
This is not a self-reported certification. It is not a marketing badge a company designs for itself. It is a rigorous federal standard that evaluates ingredients for aquatic toxicity, carcinogenicity, reproductive toxicity, skin sensitization, and environmental persistence. Products that pass carry the blue and green EPA Safer Choice seal on their label.
At Angst Cleaning, our EPA Safer Choice certified products include Seventh Generation All Purpose Cleaner and Seventh Generation Toilet Bowl Cleaner. The EPA has verified both and confirmed them safe for people, pets, and the environment.
What this means for your business: when you see EPA Safer Choice on a product label, you can be confident a federal agency independently reviewed every ingredient, not just the manufacturer claiming it’s safe.

What is USDA Certified Biobased?
The USDA Certified Biobased Product label is a certification from the United States Department of Agriculture. It confirms a product’s ingredients come from renewable biological sources, such as plants, animals, marine materials, or forestry materials, rather than petroleum-based chemicals.
A product labeled USDA Certified Biobased 100% means every ingredient comes from a biological source. This matters because petroleum-based cleaning chemicals are a significant source of indoor air pollutants and contribute to environmental contamination during manufacturing and disposal.
Our Seventh Generation disinfecting products carry the USDA Certified Biobased 100% designation, meaning the active ingredients come entirely from plant sources, not petroleum.
What are VOCs
and Why Do They Matter?
VOC stands for volatile organic compound. These are chemicals that evaporate at room temperature and enter the air as gases. Many conventional cleaning products release VOCs during and after application. That means the chemicals your cleaning crew uses at 10pm are still circulating through your building’s ventilation system when your employees arrive at 8am.
Common VOCs in conventional cleaners include formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia, and chlorine compounds. Repeated VOC exposure can cause headaches, respiratory irritation, and eye and throat discomfort, with more serious health effects possible after long-term exposure.
Green cleaning eliminates VOC exposure. Our plant-based products contain zero VOCs. What enters your facility is a botanical cleaning solution derived from plant ingredients. What remains after service is a clean, healthy environment with no chemical smell, no residue, no waiting period before your team returns to work.

What is a Plant-Based Disinfectant?
Most commercial disinfectants use quaternary ammonium compounds (“quats”) or bleach-based formulas as their active disinfecting ingredient. Both are effective but both carry significant downsides: skin and respiratory irritation, surface corrosion over time, and environmental persistence after they enter the water system.
Plant-based disinfectants use naturally derived active ingredients instead. Our EPA registered botanical disinfectants use Thymol as the active ingredient, a compound derived from thyme oil. People have used it as a natural antimicrobial for centuries, and modern science now validates it against a broad spectrum of pathogens.
Our plant-based botanical disinfectant, EPA registered and on EPA List N, the official list of disinfectants approved against SARS-CoV-2, kills:
99.9% of viruses in 1 minute including COVID-19, Influenza A, H1N1, and Norovirus
99.9% of bacteria in 2 minutes including MRSA, Salmonella, E. coli, Staph aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa
99.9% of fungi and mold in 3 minutes including Athlete’s Foot Fungus and Candida albicans
Mycobacterium tuberculosis in 3 minutes, a healthcare-grade kill claim
All with no bleach, quats, or harsh chemicals, just the same results, straight from a plant.
What is EPA List N?
EPA List N is the official list maintained by the United States Environmental Protection Agency of disinfectants that meet EPA’s criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The EPA tests and verifies every product on that list as effective against the coronavirus. Not every green or plant-based product makes it. Ours does, making it one of the few plant-based disinfectants in the country carrying both a natural, botanical formula and the EPA’s highest disinfection verification for COVID-19.
Not every green or plant-based product makes EPA List N. Our botanical disinfectant does, making it one of the few plant-based disinfectants in the country that carries both the botanical/natural positioning AND the EPA’s highest disinfection verification for COVID-19.

What is Green Electrostatic Disinfection?
Electrostatic disinfection is a technology that applies disinfectant solution through a sprayer that gives the particles a positive electrical charge. Those charged particles are naturally attracted to surfaces. They wrap around and cling to everything they contact, including the backs of chairs, undersides of desks, and hard-to-reach corners that a standard spray-and-wipe cannot cover.
Conventional electrostatic disinfection uses harsh chemical disinfectants, often bleach-based or quat-based formulas. Green electrostatic disinfection uses our EPA registered botanical disinfectant instead, delivering the same complete, even coverage with zero bleach, zero VOCs, and zero harsh chemicals.
The result is the most thorough disinfection available, with the cleanest, safest chemistry available. This service is particularly valuable for medical offices, dental practices, professional offices, and any high-traffic space where both coverage and chemical safety matter.
What is the Color-Coded Microfiber System?
Color-coded microfiber is a professional cleaning process standard that uses different colored microfiber cloths in different zones of a facility
to prevent cross-contamination between areas.
It’s a simple system in practice: different colored cloths are assigned to different zones of your facility, so nothing that touches a restroom surface ever touches a kitchen counter or an office desk. You can see exactly how the zones break down on our green cleaning services page.

What is Chemical-Free Steam Cleaning?
High-pressure steam cleaning uses water heated to boiling point and pressurized into steam that is directed precisely at surfaces. The combination of heat and pressure kills bacteria, pathogens, mold, and mildew and loosens stubborn buildup, without a single cleaning chemical of any kind.
Steam cleaning produces zero VOCs, zero chemical residue, and zero environmental impact beyond water and heat. It is the most purely green cleaning technology available and an essential part of our green cleaning program for restrooms, kitchens, machinery, and high-bacteria areas throughout your facility.

What is IJCSA Certification?

IJCSA Green Cleaning Certification:
Documents training in eco-friendly cleaning products, sustainable cleaning practices, and the environmental and health standards that define a verified green cleaning program. This certification authorizes Angst Cleaning to display the IJCSA Green Certified Logo.
IJCSA Chemical Hazards Certification:
This certification documents training in the safe handling, storage, and application of cleaning chemicals. It covers how to read Safety Data Sheets, identify hazardous substances, and protect building occupants from chemical exposure.
IJCSA Bloodborne Pathogens Certification:
Documents training in the recognition, prevention, and proper response to bloodborne pathogen exposure in the workplace, aligned with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1030 standards. Particularly relevant for facilities serving medical offices, dental practices, and any environment where exposure risk exists.
Is Angst Cleaning OSHA certified? Are you an OSHA compliant cleaning service?
Yes. Angst Cleaning holds an OSHA 10 General Industry certification issued through the U.S. Department of Labor. It covers workplace safety standards including hazard communication, chemical safety, bloodborne pathogens, PPE, materials handling, and emergency action plans. Angst Cleaning also holds IJCSA certifications in Green Cleaning, Chemical Hazards, and Bloodborne Pathogens. These credentials mean our cleaning protocols are built on verified safety standards, not just general industry assumptions. When you hire Angst Cleaning, you’re working with a company that has completed the same safety training OSHA requires workers in general industry to understand, so the standards we apply in your facility are trained, tested, and documented.
